BOTOX - Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Do you suffer from expression lines around eyes such as crow's feet and forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the eyebrows caused by overactive muscle movements repeatedly creasing the skin?
Botulinum toxin (the substance commonly called Botox) has shown impressive results in treatment of these dynamic wrinkles.
The treatment takes ten to twenty minutes and discomfort is minimal as very fine needles are used. A minute amount of the protein is injected into selected muscles, temporarily reducing the contractions and relaxing the muscles. No recovery time is involved and first results are usually noticed within 3 to 4 days. With time the skin around the treated area will look smoother and less wrinkled giving you a fresher, brighter, more relaxed appearance.
The results of such treatment are not permanent; it is usual to repeat the treatment. Most people require 1 session every 3-4 months in the first 2 years, then every 5-6 months thereafter.

• Lip area and corners of the mouth usually in conjunction with Dermal Fillers

Is it safe?
Yes. Botulinum Toxin type-A is one of the most researched drugs in medicine, with thousands of papers published from across the world and excellent safety profile. The doses of botulinum toxin used in aesthetic applications are very small and the risks of adverse effects related to its mechanism of action are consequently low.
This procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the UK and is increasingly in demand because of its effectiveness, convenience and, perhaps most importantly, client satisfaction.
Possible side effects.
Side effects, if they occur are usually temporary, mild to moderate, and are typically linked to the injections e.g. pain on injection, redness, swelling etc. In rare cases, the spread of botulinum toxin into nearby muscles can be possible especially when high doses are injected.
For that reason it is very important to see medically trained and experienced specialist in this field.
Who is suitable for Botox treatment?
Starting in our late twenties, facial lines and wrinkles begin to appear that affect not just your appearance, but also your self-esteem and even your choice of career. By smoothing out those lines Botox can help you restore a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face.
Many people can benefit from Botox - not just celebrities, and it can work as well for younger and more mature women. Advanced training enables your practitioner to minimise any possible loss of facial expression by accurate dosing and injecting specific facial muscles responsible for the wrinkles. You will not be left expressionless and you can stop your Botox treatment at any time. You will not look worse if you stop having Botox, you will just return to your pre-treatment condition.
Who is not suitable for Botox treatment?
While Botox has been safely used by millions of patients, it is recommended that pregnant or breast feeding women or patients suffering from severe neuromuscular disorders or blood coagulation disorders, do not have Botox treatment.
In addition drug interactions can occur when Botox is used concomitantly with other medications.
You must ensure that your doctor is aware of any medications you are taking, especially aminoglycoside antibiotics (gentamicin, neomycin), aspirin, anti-inflammatories, Gingko Biloba and St John’s Wort.
